Pompeii Sorrento Capri tour 3 days from Rome

Day 1: Rome, Naples, Pompeii,  Sorrento

Departure from Rome at 7,30am. On your day trip to Naples and Pompeii you will travel southwards, taking the “Highway of the Sun” and cross the fertile Roman countryside seeing the medieval villages in the area known as “Castelli Romani”. Along the way you will pass the Abbey of Montecassino, completely rebuilt after the 2nd world war.

Arriving in Naples you will enjoy a panoramic view of the city, proceeding towards the hill of Posillipo, which boasts on of the most spectacular views of the Gulf of Naples and the Volcano Vesuvio.
The city tour continues crossing the historical center to see Piazza del Plebiscito, the Royal Palace, the Basilica of San Francesco di Paola, the San Carlo Opera House, the Gallery of Umberto I and the imposing Maschio Angioino. Photo stop at the impressive Castel dell Ovo.

Pompeii

Leaving Naples, you cross the fertile valley of Mount Vesuvius, passing the villages of Ercolano, Torre del Greco (stop at cameo factory) and Torre Annunziata. After lunch in a local restaurant in Pompeii you will enjoy an awesome 2 hour archaeological walking tour of the excavations of Pompeii. Buried under a layer of ashes and lapilli by a sudden eruption of Vesuvius in 79 A.D., after 1700 years archaeologists brought to light Pompeii, a town whose daily life of the Imperial Age has been crystallized, as under a spell, in its gestures, secrets, in the panic felt by its inhabitants during the last moments. After the visit with an expert English speaking local guide you will drive along the “Costiera Sorrentina” arriving at the hotel for dinner (dress code: jacket for men). Overnight at 4* hotel.

Day 2: Sorrento,  Island of Capri, Sorrento

Breakfast at hotel. Meet the guide at the hotel and after approx. 20 minutes by boat land at the Port of Marina Grande on the Island of Capri. We will then board the motorboats to visit the Blue Grotto (if weather and sea conditions permit) followed by a panoramic tour of Capri and Anacapri by minibus and on foot. You will have some free time (lunch free) before taking the boat to return to Sorrento. Dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Sorrento, Rome

Breakfast in hotel. The rest of the day is yours to discover the charms of this jewel of the Mediterranean. In the afternoon, your local guide will transfer you back to Pompeii to take the coach back to Rome. Approximate arrival time around 8,30 – 9,00pm.  Stops in Rome: Termini Train Station, Piazza Barberini, Vatican area
