The Val d’Orcia is located in Tuscany, in the province of Siena, on the slopes of Mount Amiata. It is a wide valley characterized by landscapes of hills with gentle slopes, Tuscan cypresses, vineyards, olive groves, rural houses, crenellated towers and fascinating towns of medieval origins: Pienza, San Quirico, Montalcino, Castiglione, Radicofani, Bagno Vignoni…
Protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, Val d’Orcia is an important natural, artistic and cultural park.
The Valley also offers a profusion of unparalleled excellence concerning food and wine: olive oil, Cinta Senese cold cuts, Pecorino from Pienza, the Brunello di Montalcino, The Nobile from Montepulciano…
The medieval town of Pienza, known as “the ideal city”, it is probably the most renowned and most important artistic city of the whole Val d’Orcia, and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, for the beauty of its historic Renaissance center. The Pecorino from Pienza is very popular and it’s made from Sardinian sheep’s milk.
Montepulciano is a medieval town situated in the hills, it is enclosed within three rings of walls and surrounded by vineyards. Here they produce the grape for the well-know and much appreciated red wine named The Nobile from Montepulciano, the ideal wine to marry the local cuisine made of simple but flavorful dishes….
Also famous are the thermal baths of Montepulciano, especially for their healing properties.
