Your food tour will start in the morning at our meeting point, where you will meet your friendly and knowledgeable local food guide. You will visit four different venues in the charming neighborhoods of Campo De’ Fiori, Trastevere, and the Jewish Ghetto. This is a great way to learn about the history and traditions of Roman food, as well as to enjoy some authentic flavors and dishes.
You will then walk to the nearby Campo De’ Fiori market, one of the oldest and most colorful markets in Rome. Here you will taste some local specialties such as pizza bianca (a thin and crispy flatbread) with mortadella (a cured pork sausage),
Next, you will cross the Tiber river and enter the picturesque district of Trastevere, known for its narrow cobblestone streets, ivy-covered buildings, and lively atmosphere, and the famous “supplì” (a fried rice ball stuffed with mozzarella cheese).
After that, you will head to the Jewish Ghetto, an ancient and historic area that preserves the culture and cuisine of the Roman Jewish community. You will taste some of their signature dishes, such as carciofo alla giudia (a deep-fried artichoke that looks like a sunflower), and filetto di baccalà (a battered and fried cod fillet). You will also learn about the history and traditions of this unique neighborhood, and how they influenced the Roman food scene. You will stop at a traditional trattoria, where you will enjoy a plate of pasta with one of the classic Roman sauces: amatriciana (tomato sauce with bacon), carbonara (egg sauce with cheese and black pepper), or cacio e pepe (cheese and black pepper sauce).
Finally, you will end your food tour with a sweet treat: artisan gelato from one of the best gelaterias in Rome.
Get ready for an unforgettable gastronomic journey!
