Meeting with your local guide is at ‘Piramide’ Metro Station LINE B, from where we take a local train to reach Ostia Antica.  We avoid the ‘Via del Mare’ traffic and after 30 minutes of travel we reach the excavations of Ostia Antica.

The excavations of Ostia offer a rare testimony to Roman civilization, highlighting all aspects of everyday life and the construction methods of the past.
Walking through the ruins, your guide gradually instruct you about the cultural and social life of Ancient Rome.
The city of Ostia was founded by the Romans in 4^th Century A.C, and was inhabited by a cosmopolitan population of rich businessmen, merchants, sailor and slaves.

The tour starts with the visit of the warehouses, and there huge shipments of grain from Africa where handled, then the insulae, forerunners of the modern apartment, the thermopolia, ancient Roman bars with marble counters and frescoes depicting the foodstuffs sold inside.
Then continue the visit of the ancient theater, which is still in use today, and the Forum, centre of the city, we see the huge thermal baths and the Synagogue, one of the oldest in the western world….

After this fascinating journey you have a complete view of how life was lived in Ancient Rome !

At the end of the visit, you could return to Rome with your guide, or have lunch in a nice trattoria (home made food)
